    Exclamation NZ passport

OH has just been through immigration to go to OZ for work - he asked how long our returning residents (part) of Permanent residents visa works - we have to renew in two years if we want to leave NZ for a short period of time - but we can apply for an NZ passport at this time as well??

I know they should know - but is this right ??

You need to be a PR of NZ for 5 years now to become a citizen and get a passport, unless you've been here since before 21 April 2005. See Department of Internal Affairs citizenship page for more info.

I knew we had to be here for 5 years to be a citizen ! But it did seem strange that suggested we get passports after 2 years! thanks

If when you've been in NZ two years, you've spent more than half of each of your two years since arriving with PR, then you will be eligible to have IRRV (indefinite) - no more renewing involved, come and go whenever you want forever.

i think you have to be a citizen to get a passport.
but i also remember reading that children are exempt from the 5 year wait and ceremony to become citizens (can anyone confirm this?) so maybe they can get passports sooner?

I think it's funny that , despite being British, I still have to swear allegiance to my own Monarch at the ceremony...!

Hubby will be doing the same thing here in the UK soon (he's Kiwi), and finds it equally daft

This has to get some kind of award for the best question on a form, ever!

It is from the application form for NZ citizenship:

"20.7 Are you or have you been involved in a war crime or a crime against humanity? Yes No If Yes please provide details"

Like you would answer that honestly if you were the kind of person who did those things........

Also, it seems odd that you would stop during the commission of such a crime (as in "Are you..involved in") in order to complete an application form.

It's on the application for a visa too, for NZ, Australia and the UK (probably others too!).

I can kind of understand why, but honestly don't see the point!

Actually, my favourite was on the old E111 application forms. On the second page (of the English form) , was a question which it stated was only to be answered if you were a French Occupational Farmer in recipt of visual impairment benefit and from spme specific region.

I can't imagine that the box was used all that often.
