Question NVQ Equivalent Qual in NZ

I need some help I have just been turned down (yet) again for a job, again not being qualified or experienced enough. When in my eyes I could have done the with ease, I have 10+ years experience and more than enough qualifications, occasionally get told over qualified (can't win).

I don't think the kiwis understand what an NVQ is Does anyone know what the equivalent here would be for one of them ? I've obtained Level 3 which is one under a degree I'm told, not sure if that has changed over the years (I received it more than 10+ years ago now ).

Any help would be gratefully received as I'm really struggling now to why I can't get a job

    Hi Sizzlingbadger

I am sorry you are experiencing this. I am unsure what a NVQ is.

Ok from my Knowlage NVQ levels go like this.

Level 1 - equivalent of Below GCSE
Level 2 - equivalent of GCSE
    Level 3 - equivalent of A Level
Level 4 - equivalent of First year of a degree

Don't know if they go above that as most people then go

    Foundation Degree level 5
    BA level 6.

I know NZ levels tend to vary by about one as my UK level 6 is NZ level 7.

I don't know if that helps much, but it's pretty standard to what you'd find.

Can I ask what your NVQ is in

I'm still hunting - I KNOW I have somewhere seen a web-page which sets out things like this. Meantime, I found this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nationa..._Qualification which at least explains NVQ levels between themselves.

Just read though the link JandM posted and some of it makes sense although I've never ever heard of a NVQ level 5 being the equivalent to a Masters and I'm sure someone with a masters would also disagree.

    Try this link http://www.colchester.ac.uk/courses/course-levels

it groups qualifications by level so you can look at level 3 and find what other qualifications are around at that level.

From this the equivalent is A levels. Meaning an NZ level equivalent would be what ever advanced schooling they do at high school or collage (don't know the school system over there so. You may not be able to make an exact match as the equivalent qualification may not actually exist.

Maybe once you've found at what level your UK qualification sits at you could search courses on this site http://www.kiwiquals.govt.nz/ and see if there's one that sounds like yours so you can offer an example to employers.

Mmm, I see what you mean - ! That particular section of the page seems to be out of step with the rest. Still haven't found what I'm looking for. Where's IanW99? - any ideas?

Sorry I was editing to add a new link when you posted and yes I think IanW99 is very much needed.

I found this on the NZQA web site.

"The NQF has 10 levels - 1 is the least complex and 10 the most. Levels depend on the complexity of learning. Levels 1-3 are of approximately the same standard as senior secondary education and basic trades training. Levels 4-6 approximate to advanced trades, technical and business qualifications. Levels 7 and above approximate to advanced qualifications of graduate and postgraduate standard"

    http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...icationSystem/

This one states that NCEA level 3 is the equvalent of British A levels and if you go by an NVQ level 3 being at the same level as A levels then maybe thats kinda what your looking for.

WOOO HOOO found something at long last!

Someone who has had an NVQ 3 assessed. 2 people in fact and both come back at level 4

    http://www.enz.org/oldforum/archive/...-nzqa-1155.htm

Also here on the immigration web site it states level 3's are NZ level 4

    http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/i18398.htm

So you want to find an level 4 NZ qualification in your area to find your example. I hope that helps hehe this ended up being a little mission.

Ok bed time for me now

This isn't what I was thinking of, but I've just found this old thread, which bears out someone's NVQ3 being approx A-Levels, and gives an NZQA level for it. http://www.enz.org/forum/archive/index.php/t-20827.html

    Thank you soo much guys

So if I'm reading this right my NVQ would be a NCEA Level 4 here in NZ ? So it's between a High School Diploma and a Degree ? If I could put that on my CV it might make employers realise that I am more than qualified.

Kind of wishing I had just completed a straight forward qualification now ! !
