Default Females + medical- Advice please

I've got an appointment next Wednesday for my medical for my PR application and am due to start my period on Monday. I should have realised when I made the appointment but I panicked and took the first one they had. When I realised, I rang the hospital and they said to still attend my appointment as there is a one month waiting list for appointments.

Has anyone else encountered this, and did you have any problems? I don't mean to offend or disgust anyone, I'm just wondering whether I should wait to and rebook at a more "convenient" time

Make sure to have BMI measured today it self and if its worth try to post pone till you get all your results in favourable way, MA referral take a lot of time so its better to be safe

    Hi
It wouldn't even have occurred to me that it could be a problem... maybe someone on here will have a valid reason for it interfering with any of the tests but I had to have a medical every year when I was cabin crew and the time of the month didn't cross my mind. I certainly wouldn't cancel and have to wait weeks for an alternative.
    Hope it all goes well

On the medical form it does say do not schedule the medical during menstruation to avoid the possibility of being requested to return for further tests.

How do I prepare for my medical examination?

To reduce the possibility of you being requested to return to the Medical Examiner for further tests, you can prepare for your examination by following these simple steps:
    • drink plenty of water
    • where possible and medically fit, be fasting by not eating 8 – 12 hours prior to blood tests
    • do not consume alcohol or kava 48 hours prior to your examination
    • minimise the fat content in your diet 48 hours prior to your examination
    • if unwell, do not undergo medical examination
    • if female, do not schedule your examination during menstruation.

I'd recommend waiting. My wife had the same problem at the time of her physical. The tests will show blood in the urine, so it could appear to be a serious problem (the concern being that it might mask a problem if explained away as menstruation.

Understand, too, that each round with an MA is at least 3 weeks, so at a minimum is longer than rescheduling your physical would require.

As Suniel said, the process is long enough as is. Don't increase the risk of getting into the MA black hole. I would reschedule.

Thanks for your replies. Forgive my ignorance, but what is MA?

I rang back and the lady told me they could do everything including the urine tests and if there are any problems with the urine, I can pop back the following week to have the urinalysis done then as it is just a quick test.

Sounds like a good compromise. Sorry about the lingo. MA is "medical assessor" a group of contract physicians called upon by INZ should there be any medical condition that causes the INZ Case Officer (CO) any concern. It is a long process so should be avoided whenever possible

That does sound like a good solution, Kiwiwife, and I second SueDonim's comment that an MA referral is to be avoided if ay all possible!

(or if it can't be avoided for some other reason, don't give them any more things to look into than necessary )
