Default Short term rental - Welly

OK, so we arrive in Welly on 20th Sept. We have a serviced apartment provided for us for the first 10 days and in that time we'd like to find a small, furnished apartment, fairly central, that we can take for a three-month period while our container arrives.

Our thought process for this is:
    a) I'll be working in the CBD so we can save on my transportation costs
    b) it will be cheaper than starting to rent a full-sized home in preparation for our container
    c) it gives us a chance to look around properly and decide where we want to live
    d) as it's only the two of us, we don't need much more
    e) it's low maintenance meaning that we can spend our spare time exploring and doing other good things that we want to do.

I've checked out Trademe and Gumtree and there isn't a lot of furnished apartments out there, and most of them tend to be studios rather than one bedroom, which isn't ideal (but if push comes to shove...).

    Any other advice?

Thanks Janey. I've been looking at holidayhomes.co.nz and bookabach.co.nz but we're trying to keep costs to a minimum (i.e. under $350pw). It seems that is the minimum for a 1-bed furnished apartment and we're trying to keep things below that if we can.

I did approach one holiday homeownder in Karori who was willing to rent out their studio for $350pw (they wanted $390) for that extended time period. I'm just trying to find the cheapest way to do this to save us some pennies initially.

    Hi,
Just back from a couple of days in Wellington and apart from a job interview (still waiting on outcome) and meeting with recruitment agencies I did a mini survey of properties for rental and getting a feel the area. These are my findings, please make of them what you like:-

CBD. two bedroom serviced apartment - $550 per week on a six month rental period. Central, furnished, small & basic. Electricity paid separately and additionally.

Close to CBD. Two bedroom unfurnished apartment - $500 per week on a six month rental period. Short walking distance to CBD, reasonable condition, no gargage.

Lower Hutt. Two bedroom unfurnished apartment - $400 per week on a six month rental period. Short walking distance to train line, reasonable condition, gargage.

Upper Hutt. As Lower Hutt - $300 per week, etc.

I fully accept that my distillations of discussions with a few real estate agents is my personal opinion and that others will have more accurate and less opinionated views.

We stayed in a serviced apartment in the CBD and paid 450 per week for a studio with a kitchenette (electricity, bed linen, weekly cleaning and unlimited internet included). We booked for 4 weeks, but paid week by week and had to give only 48 hours notice when we checked out.
