Default Fire safety or printing trade

    Hello,
I'm a primary school teacher but hubby works in health and safety, now mainly fire safety. He is well qualified and experienced in fire safety. Is there any hope job wise for him in NZ?
I once read a post (quite a few years ago now) about health and safety jobs being more Government based, but I've just read a post on this forum (from about 2008) saying quality H&S employees are desirable??

He worked in the printing trade for 20 years before retraining in H&S, is it more likely he'd need to get a job in printing and keep looking for H&S jobs once settled in NZ?

    Thanks!

http://www.nzism.co.nz/wawcs0112450/...standards.html Here's the NZ professional body. If you were to contact them with details of your husband's qualifications, no doubt they would tell you what it would take to be recognized over there. I see they have a jobs section, and they would also probably be able to tell you where else such jobs would be advertised.

I just hunted for 4 months for H&S specialist and yes they are in short supply. Finally ended up with an Australian.

    Thanks everyone.
Information changes all the time doesn't it. I've seen fire alarm technicians/ fitters previously advertised on the shortage lists and I should have said that's not what hubby does. He's more of a fire safety advisor and he used to work with the fire brigade checking fire safety compliance in commericial buildings and high risk residential buildings. There are currently jobs on the shortage list but not in his field of experience (oil and gas).

'' christchurch called fire fighting pacific ''

Hi... emailed this company and they replied really quickly with lots of useful info! (How nice) Turns out Hubby might actually be better suited/ qualified/ experienced etc as as an Independent Qualified Person in NZ. Just have to find out whether the wages are comparable now?!!?
