    Default CV Rewrite Companies

My OH is flying out to begin our new life in NZ before me so I can spend time with family, and she's arriving on November 9. She's in media/film/human rights issues and has been applying for jobs on and off for a year now. We only recently got PR so we didn't expect her to get a job offer before now, but after doing a lot of research it seems best if we find a company or person in NZ who offers CV re-writes. I'll probably utilize them as well at a later date.

Does anyone have recommendations for a company or person to use for this service? I read old threads where people had their CVs rewritten and had a job very quickly afterward, but no one mentioned specific names.

Also: she's been calling most of the employers to express her interest and explain that she has PR and will be arriving soon. Once she lands in NZ, would people still recommend calling about a job, and is it enough to simply express interest and get more information about the position, or is it looked at as too aggressive?

Anybody? I guess we'll just take our chances on a random company if no one's got a particular recommendation.

Anyone have anything to say re: calling employers to express interest in a position?

I can send you a template that was used when OH had his CV rewritten if that helps you.

I don't know about hiring someone to re write your CV. I did it myself. There are lots of tips available here on this forum or google it. The NZ CV is usually just longer than the US one. More detail, more pages. No need for killer brevity like the US.

As for the hiring process here, it is much more relaxed and takes much longer than the US. They move slowly--"island time" is what OH and I call it. I don't know about calling. I tend to try to always take the more laid back approach here. I am very self conscious of my american accent. I don't want to come across as a pushy american.

This is just the approach I have taken living here. Others may have a different approach and maybe they will pop in to give their opinions.

    Good luck!

My experience as a teacher applying for work in NZ was that it was usually a good idea to hand deliver your CV - that way you can personally introduce yourself and they can then put a face to the name on your CV.

My approach when I was sending my CV to recruiters was to call them up first, have a brief chat, ask for their direct email address and then whilst on the phone send throught my CV. That way they could associate my CV with the conversation we had just been having.

Personally, i think you should not need to pay to get someone to rewrite your CVs. get help from forumites here who have been through it and are willingly to help

Oh I don't know. I would be willing to pay, no I would GLADLY pay someone to do mine. I am working on it currently and I DETEST doing this kind of thing.

So if anyone wants a job or can recommend a service, I would appreciate it too.
