A lot of people have brought their animals - if you use 'Search' on the blue bar above, you'll find old threads, and here is just one of them. http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/arch...p/t-21557.html

The basic advice is that, though many advertisements say, 'no animals', meet the people and ASK. If the owner or agent judges that you'll take care of the place, and sometimes if you agree to an extra clause in the agreement that you'll have a professional cleaning when you leave, you will find somewhere in time.

We looked a quite a lot of rentals and most are happy with 1 cat, but only 1!! I'd agree with JandM above some may be a bit more flexible but you need to be asking face to face.

where are you planning on living? That will have a bearing on what you can rent........if its in town/city then you will be limited. A lot of landlords dont like animals but we brought our dog over and found a town house but the people who owned it wanted to see pics of him and when he arrived we took him to visit them. The agent thought we were the "right sort" whatever that means.

You will have difficulty with the amount of animals you have so you need to look for a lifestyle block rental ........ i am sure they exist but they will be outside the towns/cities.

    Good luck !!!!

Till now, my husband and i are still debating if we should bring our dogs with us when we first move over to NZ.

We are lucky as my aunt agrees to help take care of the dogs while we try to settle in NZ. Shes like the godma to my dogs

My husband thinks that we should leave our dogs with my aunt for the time being and concentrate on finding a job. And its much easier finding a place to rent without pets.

I say to bring our dogs over coz i cannot bear being seperated from them for more than a month.

It's up to you but my serious advice would be to wait until you're settled to bring your dogs over. Depending on where you end up it can very difficult to find somewhere that accepts pets and if you've got them in kennels here while you find somewhere that could be more stressful than knowing they are loved and cared for at their Godma's while you sort yourselves out. We struggle with 1 dog and 1 cat.

    Thanks Kanga!

Yep, thats my husband's arguement too... find a job, find a long term rental house then go back singapore and bring the dogs over.

Will def keep ur advise in mind.

Thanks for the replies. We would like to buy in the Bay of Islands, but will probably have to start out where the work is, arriving on a skilled migrant (gasfitter) visa. The work could be anywhere and we would happily go for what we are lead to believe is a 12 month period,( in fact, we have been told that I only need stay in employment for 3 months !?) - but that is another enquiery - after which we would be free to move to where we want. Three of our dogs are getting on and we are NOT getting any more. Wherever we go, we would want to live out of town.
We are in the fortunate position of being fairly well set up financially, not wealthy, but with assets and the desire to live differently than we do here in the UK. By that I mean ..........................................Oh it would take ages and I have to be off to work soon.
Anyway, once again, thanks for the replies.
    Regards
    Steve

We are in a rental property in the middle of 90 acres with only one neighbour. We are not allowed to keep dogs at all because of the farm dogs that are used alongside the cows. We can keep one cat, and thats to keep the mice and rat population down. Oh, and we've got some chickens, kept outside of course.

Good luck with finding somewhere though. We ended up leaving our elderly dog with my parents, sad for us, but she's very happy.
