    Default Auckland Landlords

    Hi all

we are looking to make the move to Auckland fairly soon and we have been looking at rentals there. I have noticed a fairly common theme of people having bad experiences of landlords and also agents.

Can anyone recommend some good landlords that we may be able to speak to with a view to a long term let?

the company I am joining is based in Mt Eden but I will be travelling all around Auckland to visit clients.

Our plan was to use a holiday let or similar for the first month and then look at suitable locations when we are there but if we can get a long term let to start with it would be great.

As we will be on a tightish budget initially does anyone know if there is any room for negotiating on rent with private landlords or is the figure set in stone?

Any leads would be hugely appreciated or if you know of anyone that has a 3/4 bed property for rent in the surrounding areas please let me know.

    Thanks

    Andrew & Tracy

    Hello there,
I think property rates in & around Mt Eden will be bit inflated (mainly due to Rugby World Cup coming up towards end of this year). Most of the owners & agents that I have come across so far have been flexible in negotiating, it also depends on how smartly you do it.
It's very important to visit the property before finalizing. While doing our house hunt, we almost decided on few places but dropped even thinking about them after visiting the places, some of them were in industrial area (OH is quite sensitive to smell), difficult to commute etc.

Some of the houses in Mt Eden were reasonable to rent out (abt $350/week) and some of them at the same rate were in very bad condition (wardrobes were smelling awful, carpets were bad, curtains were stained, common area was not well maintained.).

I'd suggest to look for a temporary accomodation for couple of weeks, visit some places and finalize. One more thing, agents are sometimes booked in advance and work on saturdays, there were few situations when we were asked to look at the property from outside and then take an appointment .

Also try to look in and around Mt Roskill and areas along Great South Road, it will be easy to reach your office in Mt Eden.

    All the best.
