    Default Filling out the EOI

    Hello All,

I am a new member and, thrilled with this forum and the support rendered by the other members. Thanks to All.

We are in Canada and looking forward to migrate to New Zealand. We have 2 years plan in hand. I am 44 and my wife is 38, and we have 3 children, ages 10½, 8, & 3½. I have a BA from York University, Toronto and MBA from University of Wales, UK. I am living in Canada for the past 16 years and working as a Senior IT Analyst.

I have few questions about filling out the EOI:

    1. The form asks for the details of the previous passports, but I (we) only have the current one in hand. The others (2 of them) were surrendered to the authorities when obtained the new ones and have no details of them. How do I express this in the EOI?

    2. Coming from an English speaking country and hold both my degrees conducted in English, should I still need to prove my English credibility via other means?

    3. I am a Type 2 diabetic and taking medicine for cholesterol and high blood pressure - all minimum dosages, tests are all done periodically and the results are desirably under-control. Will there be any issue in getting through the process?

I certainly will have more questions, but for now, that’s it. Your comments are highly appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hello and welcome.

Point 2 - you should be fine about English ability. You may perhaps have to provide a statement from one or other of your universities that the course was entirely delivered in English, or from your employer that your work is carried out in English, but that should be no problem. This is, UNLESS registration for your chosen career required you to sit an IELTS exam (which is the case for nurses, for example).

Point 3 - conditions such as you describe don't usually cause problems, when well under control by routine medication. Your case may be referred to an MA, who may want reports from your GP and/or a specialist, but as long as these are favourable, it's normally just a matter of delay rather than actual hindrance.

I expect someone with experience will be along to comment on the matter of the previous passports.

    Hi there

First of all, good to hear from a fellow York U alumni! That’s right, got my BA too from the main campus in Downsview.

For point 2, I was in Canada for 4 years and my OH was in the US for 5 years and both of us checked the option that says “courses was conducted entirely in English”. We did not provide any other documents except of course the degree and the transcript (which was in English). Our CO did not ask for additional evidence in our case. But of course, if you don’t have a job offer, most likely there will be an interview with the CO and in our case our CO was satisfied with our English communication capability as she did not request us to take any English language test (which INZ reserves the right to do so)

Good luck with your EOI and do let us know how it goes. I suppose you’ve thought through about migrating to NZ and you’re okay with a “summer” Christmas…no snow and all…

We (family) will be in Chch in Apr this year and if you do happen to be there, let’s meet up.

Any other queries, feel free to ask.

    PS I still miss Canada

    Thanks JandM and Automotive.

I am really looking forward to have the feedback on the previous passport concern.

    @ Automotive,
Nice to meet a fellow Your U alumni. If everything goes well, in the future, we'll definitely meet in NZ.

    Again, thanks to all.

Hello, also, from a fellow Canadian!
We have just received our ITA... husband also in IT.. project manager. My advice.. make sure you keep all your records of employment forms from various jobs, tax returns, etc. and start organizing a file with all the documentation you need to submit... it's a LOT of work!!
    Good luck with your EOI.

Thanks for your great advice AngJones. I will certainly maintain a binder with all details.

May I ask (repeat) you a quick question ... how did you manage to answer the question about your previos passports? I really don't have my previous passports as I surrendered them back to the officials when I got the new one.

    Thanks again.

I haven't been through this process, but can you not say what you have done here? For instance, 'I previously held x and y passports, over z amount of time, but surrendered them to ABC office when acquiring my present one.' INZ must be aware that this is some countries' normal procedure. (In the UK, our old passport is returned to us with one corner cut off.)

    JandM,

Yeah, I am also thinking of declaring that way. In the mean time, I am also planning to call the local passport office and ask them if I can secure the details of my old passports.

    Thanks a lot.

    Cheers,

We just put in our current passport numbers.. didn't seem to be any issues with that?
Also, IQBS... some additional advice... just learning as I go along...hopefully it will make your application a little easier...
    1. Make sure you get your LONG FORM birth certificates.. you can apply for them online from Government Ontario... about $35 each and if you use the express service, they will likely be there the next day.
    2. You will need to supply proof of your existing relationship for the Application so dig out any marriage license, photos, joint bills, etc. to prove this.
    3. If you search Immigration NZ website you can download the medical, x-ray and blood work forms... it will give you an idea of what they're looking for. You might want to make an appointment with your family doctor - they can fill out all the requisition forms for the bloodwork and x-ray ahead of time and you can talk about booking a physical (ours are booked for mid-February.. but I had to book them back in September.. the wait times for physicals can be long, depending on how busy your doctor is). The requisition forms take some time for the doctor to fill out as well... about half an hour for 4 of us.
    4. Make sure you have all your original (or certified copies) of your university transcripts as well as your partner's qualifications (if you are claiming bonus points for them).
    5. You need to supply proof of all the work periods of employment you are claiming for.. so I would dig out any Record of Employment forms, tax returns, pay slips, performance evaluations, contracts, offers of employment... and sort them by each job.
    6. When you go for your police check, it's the RCMP one I believe (not just the provincial one).
Anyway, hope this helps. If I can think of anything else, I'll add to it.

Also, check out www.open2view.com to check out some stunning New Zealand properties and to give you an idea of different areas, cost of properties, etc. We are on there all the time.
