    Default Hot water cupboard

    NZ houses always had a hot-water cupboard where the water cylinder was kept - with shelves above where clothes off the line would be put to 'air' if they were cold or damp.

    I'm curious if new homes in NZ have hot-water cupboards with the shelves above? It was always nice spot to keep pajamas in the winter.

    I have fond memories of the hot water cupboard too
    so much about those older houses is unique and special

    Mine was build 12 months ago and the hot water tank is under the stairs - so no in this case
    Auckland since end March 2005

    Ours doesn't have the hot water cylinder - so no in this case.

    The house we're buying was built in the late 60s, and even that one doesn't have an airing cupboard! At least not as I know them in the UK - the hot water cylinder is in a cupboard, but so tightly packed that there's nowhere to air clothes.

    Snap! Same situation in our house with the original hot water tank. The other hot water tank that was put in the extension for the ensuite us up in the roof! I miss having an airing cupboard (as we called it in the UK) to keep all the towels & bed linen in.

    Our hot water tank is outside.

    Ours does, too! The house is around 15 years old and I keep all the towels in the hotwater cupboard- the cylinder is in the back and there are lots of shelves in front of it.
    Good place for dough, as well:-))
