    Default transportation study options

    Hi everybody :
First , I wanna thank you for this useful forum ; My question is « Where can I find the list of the washington accredited diplomas in NZ » .
What I’m interested in are programmes related to transportation and roading-I'm already a highway engineer and have 7 years of work experience- and I’ve found these two :
1- Graduate Diploma in Engineering - Transportation (GradDipEng (Trans)) (University of Auckland) Level 7
2- Graduate Diploma in Engineering (Highways) (NZ injstitue of highway technology) Level 7
I'm sure they are NZQA accredited, but not sure if they're washington or IPENZ accredited, Thanks

Google "Washington Accord" and within 3 clicks you've got the list.

What a "Revolutionary" idea!!!, I've spent two days searching before writing this thread... I've only found the list of 2,3 and 4 years programmes and of course masters and PhD.

    http://www.google.co.nz/search?hl=en...&aqi=&aql=&oq=

    Top option
    http://www.washingtonaccord.org/

Then "Washington Accord>accredited programmes" from the list on the left.

Gives you the link to the IPENZ courses.
    http://www.ipenz.org.nz/ipenz/Educat.../four_year.cfm

Note the first line - "http://www.ipenz.org.nz/ipenz/Education_Career/accreditation/four_year.cfm"

    Voila.

Washington Accord are 4 year courses, Sydney 3 years and I think Dublin 2 year. The Kingston-Upon-Hull Accord is the accreditation for study during a ciggie break.

Edit - sorry, was 4 clicks as you need to go Washington accord and then accredited programmes.

Jsut out of interest, why do you want a Washington Accord degree? I know that's one route to PR through SMC, but if you've 7 years then gaining accreditation through IntPE? Being on that would be more relevant to future employability than a 4 year full time course of which 99% will be useless. I know there are some issues related to getting full memberships without a WA degree, but there are normally pathways for those with experience, and certainly by 11 years that ought to be open to you.

    Duncan is right!

My path was via experience and I am still struggling to fit my education and experience into the NZ to my fullest satisfaction.

Thank You Duncun74 for the detailed answer ... I think it was my bad, cause I didn't mention that the programmes above are postgraduate degrees and only 9 months long.
I'm interested in WA diploma cause I'm aiming for a PhD and My degree is not accepted to apply for a Master's degree now.
And about the PR I'm not sure about immigration staff for right now, but I want to get the best degree I can for the moment.
    my thanks

Whilst the WA degree may will mee the automatic eligibility criteria for a Phd, then I'd check that there aren't other routes to enrolment, especially with experience.

As far as I understand it then there are no short-duration WA accredited courses (although I've not looked into it, my undergrad was a 4 year Civ Eng which was WA, and then I did a 1 year MSc specialising in Transportation). For immigration then the $ year was the key one, but for work then of course the latter is more relevanrt. What you may be interested in is looking at the alternative routes, as it seems that your mix of practical and accademic should suggest you have the aptitude / knowledge to undertake further education (note lower case, not Further Education of course).

I've searched for long enough on the net... but I couldn't find any alternative route, which let me the only option of undertaking a postgraduate diploma --> getting 65% to eligible for masters degree --> Master's degree which obviously is WA (simple application the 4 clicks theory on Google)
Thank you a lot ...and if you any suggestion that can help PLEASE let me know .

and what this document states in 3.1.2.(a)
    http://www.washingtonaccord.org/APEC...ementMay05.pdf
it's not a guaranteed way "the engineer can request that the Associate Dean or Dean of the School of Engineering assess whether the combination of the engineer's qualifications ie their initial degree and their post graduate qualification, is at least equivalent to a New Zealand IPENZ accredited four-year engineering degree"
Keep the good work guys, and thanks to Duncun74 and Ralf-DZ
