Thumbs up Thornton's chocolates, Jaffa cakes, Yorkie bars...

...Marmite crisps, Paxo stuffing mix, proper Atora suet! All recently discovered in the International Food aisle at New World in Nelson

Along with jelly tots, chewits, sherbet fountains and swizzles. My life is almost complete!

I do wonder what impression it would give someone who's never visited England before though. They also sell a selection of Fray Bentos pies, Scampi crisps and bread sauce mix. Nothing else from the UK (so no custard powder yet /sigh).

My daughter got really excited when she found fruit pastilles in the nelson new world.
Honestly, people must think that the British diet is really unhealthy and consists only of processed food...
I also noticed recently that English recipe baked beans are actually made in NZ so that makes them even more expensive. Not that I have bought them to compare. I do remember buying Birds custard powder here in wellington, it was something like $8.

I don't like Watties tomato sauce, and OH has lived away so long, he prefers Heinz too so we indulge in the 'English Recipe' beans, but have recently tried the Oak brand beans and they are a good substitute for Heinz beans.

I did pick up a can of Devon custard recently I don't know why - I love custard but I'm hardly going to eat the whole can on my own (OH isn't a custard fan), plus I prefer Bird's custard! I'm not going to admit how much the custard cost either....

Oh, Atora suet! Having recently (successfully, but with what palaver) cooked with actual suet from the butcher in NZ, grated, I'd love to know that this old friend is going to be around instead!

For those in the Wellington region: Petone's Pak'n Save has a small shelf full on imported UK goodies, including some of the products mentioned in this thread. The shelf is between the freezers and the fancier cheeses. Wakefield St New World seems to have quite a few UK products (they even had Irn Bru and Dr Pepper cans on sale some time ago), but they're just on the shelves between NZ products, not in one single location which makes them a bit harder to spot. There's also the UK Goodies shop on Jackson St in Petone.

Very jealous, New Plymouth New World doesnt have UK food on their international aisle, think I might start a campaign! Had a craving for my old student fav of heinz spaghetti hoops on toast only to find that one of the main ingredients of NZ spaghetti is cheese, very strange.
