I think from memory - but a search on old threads would bear this out or not -if you get a WTR visa for two years or more, your children would be entitled to student visas for a matching amount of time, so wouldn't be classed as international students.

Depends on the age of the children.

WTR visa allows you to pay domestic fees for school children but you have to pay international fees for tertiary education.

BTW, are you talking about the proper WTR that you apply for, or the one that you get if you apply for residence but are offered WTR instead? My info is for the 'proper WTR'.

We arrived in Auckland in Jan 2010 ( last year ) on a 9 months WTR. Our kids attended Meadowbank Primary School in Remuera as domestic student. They were 9 and 7 years of age.

No school fees required apart from the small misc expenses for trips and other stuff. There is the donation bit which varied from school to school.

    Hi,

We are hoping to get a SMC visa as Mike's occupation is on the LTSSL.... this may be a stupid question but, does anyone know if the same may apply, as in our children will be domestic students?

    Thanks

Skilled Migrant isn't a visa - it's a route through which you apply. If successful, your whole family mentioned on the application will have Residence visas. Your children will be domestic students. As the others have mentioned above, NZ schools have a system of 'donations' - sort of morally obligatory payments - but they're at nothing like the level of private school fees. http://www.minedu.govt.nz/Parents/Al...Donations.aspx

Thanks for that JandM, all the different visa routes can get a bit confusing!
