    Question Coeliac disease

Does anyone know if Coeliac disease can be a medical condition for which a visa/permit can be refused?

I'm asking on behalf of a very dear friend who is currently on a months extension pending the outcome of medical tests carried out yesterday.

Dr thinks her persistent low iron count could be due to Coeliac disease.

(The rest of the family have just been granted WTR visa's (Talent route), having been here for 5 years already on general work visas).

They, and I, would be devastated if they were made to leave

A lot will depend on eventual diagnosis and cost of treatment... fingers crossed!

It shouldn't but you never know.

I have celiacs & it didn't prevent me from getting PR.

Thankfully New Zealand is very gluten-free aware.

Anemia is a side effect of celiacs but usually dissipates after going G-Free & supplementing with iron.

If person in question has been g-free for a while, there maybe a bigger underlying issue than just celiacs.

Thank you. Results aren't known yet, but it's good to know that if it is she'll be allowed to stay (fingers crossed). It's been a very traumatic process for the family, not knowing what the cause of her problems are and the stress of having to possibly leave NZ.
