Yes. As per the guidance, you pay to actually get the visas added into your passports if you're fortunate to get PR, and that fee also covers a contribution to settlement support / migrant research once you're here.

You then need to pay again after 2 years to convert to the Permanent Permanent Residency....

I think that the Migrant Levy is somewhere in the region of NZ$310!

Is that paying for the blue stickers to go in your passport?

Excuse my ignorance, I find the whole process & documentation confusing! Let alone money sapping!

You pay it at the time the stickers go in your passport.

    Migrant levy

If you are approved for residence you will have to pay a migrant levy in addition to the standard visa application fees before you receive your resident visa.

The purpose of the migrant levy is to contribute to the funding of programmes intended to assist the successful settlement of migrants. For instance, the levy funds help with costs related to the Language Line telephone interpreting service, the Migrant Employment Assistance service, and the Citizens Advice Bureau Language Link service. The funds also include a contribution towards English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) tuition for adults and children.

The migrant levy is also used to carry out research into settlement issues and the impacts of immigration. For instance, the Longitudinal Immigration Survey: New Zealand (LisNZ) and short-term research on settlement and immigration. The information gained from this research helps Immigration New Zealand develop immigration policies that can best help migrants settle in and contribute to New Zealand.

If there are more than four people included in a single application, the migrant levy is only payable by the four oldest family members.

Sorry, not sure. It will be in the guidance or someone may be able to provide an update.

    Default Migrant Levy

If you are granted residence, you and everyone included in your application will have to pay a migrant levy unless you are exempt.
    The migrant levy is:
    • NZ$310 per successful applicant aged five or over, unless the application was approved under the Pacific Access Category
    • NZ$155 per successful applicant aged under five years
    • NZ$155 per successful applicant under the Pacific Access Category.
If there are more than four people included in a single application, the migrant levy will only be payable by the four oldest family members.
