Default Places to live outside Central Auckland.

What places do you guys recommend to live other than Auckland central?

I have tried to figure it out myself using google maps and the Maxx transit routes....but I seem to be more confused than ever

My Wife will be studying at AUT so that would be the epicentre of our universe for 1.5 years.

Our criteria is we are looking at renting a 1 room place for about $250 a week which should be close to the Maxx transit system.

Everything I checked out seemed to be at least an hour away according to google!

Are travel distances normally big around Auckland or am I just looking in the wrong places?

I am afraid that you wouldn't find anything close to city for $250 - you could consider to share a house with someone.

BTW just double check the AUT locations as they have buildings in the CBD, North shore and Manukau and usually some of the courses are in different locations (my partner studies AUT and she goes to North Shore 2 days in week).

What areas do you think would be feasible 70m45?I checked online and there do seem to be a few decent looking places available for $250 but of course nothing near the centre of town.

I was looking at Manukau city, is that really far away from CBD if we plan to take the bus or train to work/study?

Generally how good are the buses in the sense of connectivity?
I need a couple of names of suburbs we could check out?

I'm up in Stanmore bay and it takes me about 45-60 mins to drive to work in the morning. (I work in Mt Eden). You could look at places like Glenfield, shouldn't be too expensive and is easy to jump on the bus in the morning.

You can get a train from Manukau. They're pretty regular during peak times but at evenings and weekends they only run once every hour or so.

Thats great! I checked the realestate.co.nz website and they seem to have a few properties available for rent at manukau for around $250 a week.

I live in Avondale, and places like New Lynn and Waterview are not too bad as they're outside the city centre but pretty close to the motorway, so commuting is a snap. Distances are wide but if you pick the right time to travel it's pretty quick to get anywhere.

You might try looking close to the AUT campuses on the North Shore (in Northcote) or in Manakau. AUT runs a shuttles back and forth between campuses which is a bit faster than regular buses as it only makes a few stops. Also cheaper than the other buses.
