Thread: Which Satnav?

  1. #1

    Default Which Satnav?

We are hoping for PR (parent category) in the not too distant future.
Can anyone please recommend a model of satnav which I could buy as a Christmas present for my OH which he would be able to use in NZ if our application is eventually successful? Do they come with NZ maps already loaded or are they purchased later? They are a complete mystery to me and I dont want to ask him!!

Depending on it's use I wouldn't bother with too expensive model. We sold ours before we came as I think the maps were so expensive to buy, we were here for 3 yrs till we got another & the only reason we did was because Harvey Norman was selling one for under $100. The make is Uniden which I have never heard of but it does the job & helped us whilst we were on holiday to explore the area more.

TomToms can get NZ maps added. I like them, works well. But if you buy in the UK then the advanced features like realtime traffic won't work over here. And that's a really useful feature if you drive into Auckland / Wellington (ChCH?). Outside f those then I wouldn't worry, as you don't get traffic jams.

Do you not just go and pick up the oil off the beach? Why do you need to dig?

We bought a TomTom in the US and then purchased a downloaded map for NZ which is stored on a memory card. You can buy maps for the whole world to put onto it though. Just plug it into the pooter and go to TomTom's website.
