    Default Rental listings question

    Hi all,
Most of the listings for rent on trade me mention "up to X tenants". So for example, if it says "up to 4 tenants" - does that mean that we, as a family with 3 kids, have no chance of qualifying? Or do they mean not more than 4 adult tenants? I just want to know if there is even a point of going to look at houses that say up to 4, if we are 5 including the 3 kids.

    Thank you!

Good question, I am also curious. Short of calling a realtor, has anyone had experience with this?

I think that's if you're sharing (or flatting as it's known here) so would be in reference to adult tenants.

I would think that's student digs. You probably want to avoid that sort of house.

I think it depends on the properties as well, generally properties on Trademe have words like 4 tenants for 2 bedroom house, 5-6 people for 3 bedroom house and so on. Mostly its to keep too many people in the property that might spoil the place, within your inquiry form you might want to put a note like....."looking for property for a couple with 3 kids".

The place where we live right now had Trademe ad stating "suitable for 3-4 adults" and its totally a residential unit with lot of families staying around .
