Default Best places to look to rent in Auckland?

Ideally closer to the hotels and hospitality related jobs, little rural and also walking distance to CBD? And is it almost impossible to find a place double glazed

I assume given you are looking at hospitality related jobs, you are talking about the CBD? In which case it will be impossible to find somewhere rural that is within walking distance. However you could find somewhere on quieter leafy streets within 30 minutes walk of the CBD, but expect to pay significantly higher rent than other areas of Auckland and expect to live in either an older building or a very small but resonably modern terraced town house. Consider Ponsonby and Freemans Bay to the east of the CBD, or Mission Bay and Parnell to the west. There are some lovely quiet streets in the peripheral area of the Auckland Domain, which is about 30-40 minutes walk (via the Uni) from the CBD, or about 10 minutes on the bus.

It is very unlikely that you would find a double glazed place. It is usually uneconomical to retro fit double glazing in all but the most major renovation, and often Kiwi's would rather invest in a new boat than in replacement windows. You are only likely to fnd it in houses built after 2008 when the new insulation reg's came into force. If that is a major concern, look at areas with a lot of new development.

Clearly, you are looking at this from the top down

Mission Bay and Parnell, St Helier's and Glendowie are called the Eastern bays, whereas Freeman's and Herne Bay, Ponsonby and Westmere are West. And to confuse matters further, the whole lot up to the Tamaki Estuary is considered 'Central Auckland,' go figure.

You are right and I am imagining the Auckland map upside down. Oh, the shame of a geographer who has no sense of direction....I will conveniently blame the wine and the fact that it was nearly 2am when I posted that

Have you considered Devonport? One 12 minute ferry ride and you're in the middle of the CBD.

Thanks very much for replies, we do have a max budget of $400 a week for 2 bedroom place with garden, we are just a couple, BF needs to travel to Browns Bay for work every day and I will be a lady of leisure I guess till and if and when i ever can get a job.

I am checking all online estate agents but seems like houses or flats are way too old with ancient kitchens unless you pay $550 +, I will definitely miss my brand new London flat with excellent central heating

One thing to note - Auckland is alot warmer than london

I would look for a place with heat pump installed, generally that is all you need in Auckland, and is what most people are getting these days.

If the job is in Browns Bay, then have a look in Takapuna. Birkenhead as well has quite a bit of 2ish bedroom rental stock.

Go North! The closer to the CBD the more expensive rentals get. Have a look at the area around Browns Bay, Albany or even further North
