Medical Exam and Police Clearance - Twice?

Question is for those who have moved under the work visa while applying for a residence visa through the SMC.

When applying for residence under the SMC, do you need to submit new police clearance documents and medical exam form 1007, in addition to what was sent for the work visa? I was told tonight by INZ that since the medical exam form is good for 3 months, and the police clearance good for 6 months, that new documentation is probably needed when applying for the residence visa via SMC. So that would mean getting another medical exam done, this one in NZ while living under the work visa, and sending away for the police clearance documents from the home country to submit with the residence application.

Anyone else been through this and had a similar or different result? It sure would be nice if the application for work visa could be linked to the SMC application and police clearance and meds shared, but then I suppose it depends on when one is actually invited to apply via the SMC.

Unfortunately if your medicals and police clearance have expired by the time you submit your ITA, then you have to re-do as was the case with us after being issued our work visas.

Scott, but if you do need to get new FBI clearance you can do it quicker if you use an FBI Channeler. We got our approval literally within two hours. It is all online. We had to drive like 30 minutes, and in some places you might have to drive further. But it is worth it to get a quick turnaround. If for some reason we got the ITA before the police clearance and medical exams expire, but have already sent this documentation to the Washington DC branch office, can INZ in New Zealand see these documents, or must we get new originals? Again, thanks for all the feedback.
