    Default Pukerua Bay

    Hi Folks,

So, the house search continues and we have seen a nice house in Pukerua Bay, an area where we touted as an option a few months back but thought it was probably out of our budget. At the moment it seems too good to be true so we are going back for a second viewing today - this time without the rose tinted glasses!

From what I've researched it seems to be a nice little coastal village, with sufficient amenities for our everyday needs and for bringing up children. The railway station has had a revamp and the trains are frequent to Wellington. The kindy/pre-school's future is at risk, which would be an inconvenience but other options are not too far away in Plimmerton and Paekakariki.

So, what are the downsides of living there? Are there any?? Please sell it to me!

    Many thanks.

We know some people who live there, they both work in Wellington and their child has always gone to (private) school in Wellington. It is a nice little place.

Puk Bay is lovely, though it is a community out on its own. I've done some volunteering work there where one of our briefs was a beach clean-up and that didn't take very long at all as it was all clean already! The only place we found that was awful was the "Puk Bay Hilton" which is around to the NE of the main beach and is an area closer to the road and away from the houses where some of the local teenagers have been known to gather at night, light a bonfire, etc. We found a bunch of broken beer bottles there. There's pretty much zilch for the youngsters to do, but it is a beautiful little town, and even has some geocaches!

We are up in Raumati, just 15 mins away from pukerua bay. Almost made an offer on a house there. Not many shops in the town but paraparaumu and Porirua are pretty near. There are express trains that goes to the city in the weekday mornings.

Hello, sorry to gratecrash the post but just wondered what you thought of Raumati as that is where we plan to go in January. We visited a couple of weeks ago and loved the beach and school

I live just north of Raumati in Waikanae (is this thread heading north??). Raumati is a nice little community, fantastic parks, beach, small shops, restaurants. It doesn't have its own train stop, so you'll be driving into parapara or Paekakakariki. On the previous topic, Pukerua Bay is also a very nice community, though it doesn't have much in the way of shops, just a nice beach, views and it's own train station to take you to work in Wellington.
