Question PM Salary for Invercargill ?

I interviewed for a Business Analyst position, but they've come back that I would be better employed as a Project Manager since I've got more skills than what they needed, and they've offered the Analyst job to someone else?

This is going to be in Invercargill and Public Sector....Does any one know what the salary range should be

I was informed today that the Analyst role was 64-71k and I was asked if that would have been a challenge, I did say it was lower than what I expected but I did hum and haw, so it's likely I've lost the match anyway.

Going nuts now with the sudden surprise. I'm currently in Welly so will be moving alone.

I have been invited to fly to Invercargill in Jan and check whether I would like to live there etc, the manager is taking me for a drive around Southland, so I'm trying to look at this positively.

Make a little effort to find out would be my advice.

Seems a pointless question to be honest

I'm sorry but I don't understand your response.

I have googled, such as salary for invercargill, or salary by town NZ, I couldn't find the information I was looking for.

Perhaps you could point me to the standard salary information resources, I did look at the trademe one for example, and it seems to provide just for the job roles and average salary for NZ (~114k)

Why do you say it is a pointless question. I'm a bit confused.

Are they offering you the PM position? If so I would just ask them - actually I'd just ask them anyway. PM roles are so hard to get a standard salary for because they are so different in different situations.

The way it is phrased sounds like they see the PM role as more senior/specialist than the BA - based on them saying you have more skills than they needed for a BA. So it should be at least equal to that BA scale, if not more.

Alternatively if you really want to be a BA I'm sure more will come up in Welly, and maybe some senior BA's in the new year.

Thanks Lauralocks, that helps with at least where I could start in my head. Yes, I have had some interest from EQC for the New Year, let us see how things pan out.

I'm quite interested in the PM role, also it is a mix of statutory reporting, PM and mentoring the BA they chose, and they're apparently not wanting to lose me, so I'm choosing to be open and optimistic.

    Thanks for your comments

Just as an aside, I would consider those to be two totally different jobs that require different qualifications. Are you both, a PM and a BA?

Other than that, are there pay bands available? Where I work (health), we are banded and paid accordingly. It means that you don't automatically get paid more as a PM than as a BA, it depends on your band.

Can you find if they have pay bands, and where on the band they see the two respective jobs?

Hi dharder, yes, I am qualified and experienced in both. That's excellent feedback. I think it's a good question that I could ask.
