The prices above were recorded during the six months to 30 September 2020.

The September 2020 Barfoot and Thompson rental report stated that, in the Auckland Central suburbs, Aucklanders are paying around $657 per week for a three bedroomed property and $524 for a two bedroomed property.

The report also stated that in Auckland city centre, Aucklanders are paying around $1,041 per week for a three bedroomed property and $612 for a two bedroomed property. (There are relatively few three bedroomed properties in this city area.)

The Tenancy Services Division figures show, from the data displayed above, that in Auckland City the most expensive average rents for a two bedroomed flat are in Grafton / Newton and Parnell costing $650 per week. One of the cheapest is in Otahuhu costing $420 per week.

*Data is for apartments as no data for flats was available.

Notes and Definitions:
• Cheaper: One-quarter of properties rent for less than this price.
• Average: This is the median price
• Dearer: One-quarter of properties rent for more than this price.

Properties are often let from January for 12 months, hence there is often an increase in rents at the beginning of the year.

The data shows market rents for non-government owned properties for which Tenancy Services holds information. Any category that has less than five bonds lodged has been excluded, to prevent individual properties being identified.
