Hamilton is home to Wintec and Waikato University and the cost of accommodation in some areas will be affected by the large student population.

Figures from Trade Me Property up to 31 March 2018 showed that the average (median) rent for a three / four bedroomed property in New Zealand, excluding Auckland, was $450 per week and for a one / two bedroomed property was $350 per week.

From the selection displayed, the Tenancy Services Division figures show that in Waikato / Hamilton the most expensive average rent for a two bedroomed flat is in Waipa – Cambridge / Leamington costing $430 per week. One of the cheapest is in South Waikato District costing $180 per week.

For a three bedroomed flat in Waikato, the most expensive average rent is in the Hamilton suburbs of Te Kowhai / St Andrews / Queenwood costing $450 per week.
