Work visa and soletrader possible?

Hi everyone here,

I have a 2,5 year Talent (Accredited Employer) Work Visa, have a job and IRD-number.
My intention is to apply for Partner of a New Zealander Resident Visa after living with my Kiwi partner for 1 year.
Is registering as soletrader allowed, so I can start up a small online business for passive income?
Or do I better wait until I have got my resident visa?

The explanation for my work visa mentions working in my present job for my employer only, but nothing is mentioned about also running a business as soletrader.

Do you have an answer, tips or suggestions? Thanks so much in advance.

Your link and the link in that thread are really helpful. My next steps are:
- write business idea
- ask employer for written approval
- ask Immigration NZ for written approval variation of conditions (both documents attached).
