Can we bring our fridge?
Hi all, just a quick one, but are we able to bring our fridge with us? Only ask cos it quite a good one!!
We have family over in NZ and they never took theirs becuase they were advised that NZ MAF do not allow you to bring them due to the CFC'S inside?
Thanks
Mike

Hello and welcome. :)
I've never heard of there being a restriction on bringing in your own fridge, and this official leaflet makes no mention of any such thing either. http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/files...ed-to-know.pdf

We brought our large US style fridge-freezer with us with no problems.

We brought a fridge and a freezer, no problems whatsoever. No-one ever mentioned that there would be any.

if it's a new fridge there should be no problems with the chemicals....
...but if you do bring it remember to leave it stood in place for at least 24 hours without switching on to allow the coolent to settle....otherwise you could burn out the motor

Apparently it depends on the age of the fridge. If it is fairly new then it is ok. If not there can be issues with the CFC's. Best to double check with customs.
This is what we were told about a freezer of ours. It was about 8 years old and we were told no

We brought our 10 year old freezer with us and no one very mentioned that it would be a problem.

Defn bring your fridge if you can, all the rentals we looked at didn't come with a fridge so we had to buy one on arrival which we hadn't factored into the costs. They don't seem to do a lot of intergrated fridges over here.

Bring your fridge and make sure the packers take the bottle of milk out, that they leave in there til the last minute for making tea! Ours got left in and I am sure that if MAF had been there when we unpacked it they would have condemned it - it was a disgusting sight!

Thanks for all your replies guys.
Think we will just take it with us and see what happens. They can only take it off us!!
Thanks
