    Default Airport Money

On arrival how much in NZ dollars will we need to have at the airport for taxes etc? Also, when picking up our two dogs at the airport, how much will we need for them?

Re taxes - nothing. You used to need to pay a departure tax, but that's now (sensibly) been included in the normal ticket price.

Sorry, can't help with the dog questions.

You still pay departure tax from some of the airports.

??? The international departure tax that you used to have to pay at the airport as a separate transaction? Really? However, to be clear to the OP, there is no arrival tax (nor has there ever been one).

    Yes, really.

    Departure Tax
A tax of NZ$25 must be paid at the airport when you leave New Zealand, unless you are leaving from Auckland airport. Please note that this tax is only included in your ticket price if you are departing from Auckland International Airport. Children under 12 years of age are exempt from the departure tax fee.

I think that we were about $80 for MAF and then $35ish for Air NZ to release the animals. No tax arriving in Chrtistchurch.

If your pets are arriving at a different time to you it is worth while heading to cargo to pick up the paperwork ahead of their arrival (about an hour should do)and then heading to get customs to get the paperwork cleared, then back to cargo to pick them up. We were told by Air NZ to go once the pets had landed, but while we were in Customs House on another matter the officer there advised us to head in an hour early, pick up the paperwork and then clear customs before the animals landed. Now it may be that this is possible in Christchurch as they clear MAF in Auckland, but it is worthwhile checking as our pets would have spent about 3/4 hour longer in their cages if we had gone in at the time suggested.

Or do you mean a taxi?

I arrived at Auckland airport with three large bags plus a laptop bag, so getting a bus to Queens Street was out of the question. I paid $80 (approx £38) for a cab.

No idea if Auckland cabs will transport dogs.

I think we paid less than $100 to get our dog's paperwork at Auckland airport, but it was a while ago so please check.

I agree with the above that its worth going a bit early to do the admin, however they did let our dog out once she arrived and we saw her being taken for walkies (or rather taking a MAF person for walkies) and having her first widdle on NZ soil whilst we were sorting out paperwork. They popped her back in the crate after she'd had a leg stretch. So don't assume that your slight delay will lead to a longer confinement (and after 24+ hours, will they notice?)

And if you ever fly out of Rotorua you have to pay $5 at a separate desk, apparently to pay for the runway extension (which has already been built).
