Default Shipping insurance - sense check

Due to the dates of our move, and the time difference we're having to sort out our insurance in the absence of an inventory.

As a sense check, then 2 people, 3 bed house, no fancy antiques, $110,000 excluding pedal cycles.

Worryingly that includes $20,000 of books

I do seem to recall that most of the insurance companies want a detailed inventory - time consuming painful experience but I guess that is the only way to settle a claim if necessary.

We had to give our insurance company a detailed inventory too.

Can't do the detailed inventory. Packing not complete until close of play 23/12 UK. Offices closed from end 23/12 NZ time, and so need the details by morning of 23/12 NZ time (ie evening 22/12 uk time). One more example of how everything is more complicated than you think it will be.

The insurance has 2 options, either the inventory, or the prices with specied items listed. Of course I can fax them the inventory on 24/12 uk time which will be before it sails.

I haven't finalised insurance yet and intend going with http://www.lettonpercival.co.uk/insu...or-emigrating/
given the positive experience of others on this forum
First glance suggests they only want an overall value of possessions ... but I may be wrong?

They seem long standing, good value and based in good old Liverpool!!!

Yep, but I just want to make sure that the vaule in post 1 is feasible. Ie it shouldn't be $30k or $300k. Pretty sure it sounds about right but as everyone that's moved over mus know what the value was as the premiums are based on a %age of value then I was hoping it would be easyish for people to agree that sounded in of the right order.

I don't have the numbers any more when we got our stuff to here.

However what about the "normal" contents insurance you presumably still have up there? Use it as a basis and add/deduct/convert to the occasion.

$110k is very close to our amount entered.

Cheers Ralf. Sadly we moved to a 'no limit' contents policy a few years back. Only list items over £5k.

Addicted - thanks. Hopefully not something that will matter.
