My husband does and my little kids were learning when we left California (I body surf). Unfortunately, we live in Tasman Bay so have to go on surf trips. We're taking our first to Taranaki this summer. Any surf break recommendations?

My hubby surfs, or at least he used to. Not done so much lately. We have done body boarding a little though. I also work with a champion female surfer.

This summer we'll definitely be hitting Mangamauna just north of Kaikoura.
What kind of wetsuit did you use when you lived here? How do you find the water temp?

My OH just got into stand up paddle boarding. Great exercise and a fun way to be on a board even if there isn't big surf near you (Kapiti doesn't have much of a break).

I definitely need to invest in one of those. I see people crusing by from my lounge and the bay is perfect for it when it's fine.

We see a lot of surfers in Scarborough Beach in Sumner and at Taylor's Mistake...probably the two closest surf areas to Christchurch...I don't surf but my sons started to learn and really enjoy it.

Just come here! I'm not a surfer myself (being handicapped) but we see them 'always' from our window(s) down at the beach - which is in Dunedin!
