Default Furnished accommodation - North Shore East Coast

Our move has been pulled forward drastically to May 2011 (we were looking at moving January 2012!!!)

We are a family of six and are looking for furnished accommodation on our arrival in Auckland - probably for a period of around 3 months whilst our goods are shipped over.

Can anyone recommend or know of anyone who has a 3/4 bedroom house to rent from May to August 2011? We are looking at the Lower East Coast Bays, Devonport etc

We also have two cats and a dog - I know this may cause a problem, but we have been renting with them for the past 4 years now. Our dog is a cocker spaniel and is no trouble at all and our cats are selkirk rex who have been used to living indoors here in London.

I would be grateful for any advice or suggestions.

    Thank you.

This lady handles a lot of rentals in Devonport. She may know if there's going to be anything available short term:

we stayed here with Colin and Mandy and they provide the perfect package for people immigrating. Its in the Albany area but you may struggle to find furnished accommodation as it is not the norm here, most rental property is unfurnished.also people find it hard to find unfurnished property that will take pets so be prepared for a long search to find temp furnished property that will take pets. Having said that colin and mandy are well experienced in accom for migrants so may be able to help on the pet situation

I've recently been looking for similar accommodation for my in-laws who want to come for a longer visit.

Catrina at www.holidaysnz.co.nz has been really friendly & helpful. Some of her properties also pop up on www.holidayhouses.co.nz

    Good luck with your move!

I've had good recent experience with setting up my own rental (East Coast Bays) with Jayemi and Tammy (jayemi@crcentral.co.nz / (027) 700 8089) in Mairangi Bay. They were very diligent in finding me something that suited my needs -- very rare, IME, when it comes to a rental. Concur that furnished rentals are rare, except for those normally rented as holiday homes, but I'm sure you don't want to pay those rates.

I guess you could always rent a normal unfurnished place and hire furniture for a while

Another way would be to maybe buy a set of outdoor furniture which you could then put outdoors when yours arrives.

Do you know (or can you say) what sort of rates are charged here? It just looks like a lot of the furnished places are approaching $1000 per week? Which looks a lot? Or is it just that as your choices are limited when you land (particularly with a young family in tow) you're forced to paying a premium in the short term?

I don't mean to say that people renting these places intentionally take advantage of newcomers with families, but are the longer term rates a lot more favourable than if you're only staying for say a week or two?
