Default What quals. needed for electricians?

Can anyone tell us the basic qualifications that can be done in Uk that would allow you to work in NZ?

OH is thinking of re-training as an electrician here in UK but what equates to National Certificate level 4 as stated on LTSS list? Would it be possible to work in NZ with just NVQ's ? Is NVQ 1 and 2 or sufficient or does it need to be NVQ 3?

What are chances of going out to NZ on tourist visa and being able to work self employed as domestic electrician? Silly idea or not?

Or even training while there, anyone done that? Still hoping we may be able to apply on SMC with my teaching but making slow progress at the moment, so looking at alternative plans.

you could try these websites for info

Anyone wishing to register as an electrician in New Zealand must meet certain criteria as identified by the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB) http://www.ewrb.govt.nz/

or this site which is one of the training providers that supply Apprenticeships etc in our area and others in NZ http://www.etco.co.nz/default.aspx?c=8&t=Home

you can apply for an apprenticeship at any age with the ETCO - http://www.etco.co.nz/load_content.a...CO-Apprentice? the first years training is $1210.00. but you also get paid as you are working as you learn. BUT this is the price for Residents NOT INTERNATIONAL students

Marie P's OH is an electician and has done the courses to transfer his UK qualifications so hopefully he can help you.

(My son is doing a pre-trade electonic course at SIT and finishes in Nov - this is a NZQA Level: 3 course)

    - PS - it will be expensive to study as an international student - but i have linked you to this - http://www.sit.ac.nz/pages/enrolment/international.php

    good luck
