Default Transferring UK money to NZ ??

    HI

    Hope you can help!

Wondering best and cheapest way to transfer money across to NZ. This would mostly be for families to send money for little ones birthday end of month, and at Christmas time. Also, bearing in mind, one ot two of them dont have access to a pc, so couldnt use anything like paypal ... ??

I have transferred some cash from our UK account over, couple of hundred pound, but was charged £17.50 from the Halifax and then $12 from National bank. This would prob be a once in a blue moon thing but wanted to know best method for families to do so for special occasions....

Therefore if families did this, a lot of the money would be gone.... not fair on them or us really!

Would really appreciate your help and advice!!

    Hiya

My suggestion would be to ask families to pay money into your UK account if it is still open, and you give your kids the eqivalent in NZ dollars or buy a present with the money of equivalent value, thats what our family did at xmas, I then took photos of what I had bought from each person so they could see what I'd got, and then wrapped the presents and labelled them from whoever.

The money then can gather in your Uk account, either to transfer over at a later date as a bulk amont, or can be used (if someone in the Uk has authority to withdraw/write cheques from your UK account!) to buy presents or send money to family members in the uk.

Or you can buy presents for your UK family via UK websites using UK account and have it delivery to a main person who is happy to wrap it for you!!
Or transfer fund into their bank account via internet banking if you can get their bank account details.

We get family members to send a cheque over in pounds. Don't think we've been charged yet for putting it into our account

Thanks for the replies so far.

    Both sound good!

Will look into the cheque side of it as i know certain members of the family live with their cheque book and wouldnt dare look into internet banking!!

We do something similar to Marcia and then when we're ready to change a lump sum we will probably use XE.com, but haven't yet.

Alternatively for those that do have a computer here's a list of online shops family from the UK have used - some giftwrap for free:
