Outdoor fireplaces
Crazy question but can one have an outdoor fireplace in their backyard? Wondering about Wellington and Auckland in particular.

I have seen a lovely one outside at a pub in Wellington, so must be OK.

I was thinking in terms of those portable fire pits but the fireplaces on that web site are just gorgeous! Thank you for that link Swiss Miss!

Yes, you can have an outdoor fire, but must get Local Authority approval first, so need plans showing where fire is to go and full installation details. Stupid really, as you can have a bonfire and that doesn't need approval!!!
Then again, there are regs to stop you lighting bonfires in some areas...
And new regs regarding emmissions from indoor fires too - wood burners are now banned from being fitted in some urban areas around Auckland - all to do with green houses gasses!
Ah well, writing all these regs keeps someone in work I suppose.
