    Default Age limit for LTBV?

    Is there one?

Is it also possible as a 57 year old & 54 yr old couple with a bit of cash to go on a visitors visa, find a suitable business and then apply for permits , all the while staying in NZ? (A question on behalf of friends.)

We are here on a LTBV and the same age as your friends. The LTBV requires you to prove you have successfully run a similar business to that proposed on the application outside of NZ. You need to show by business plans, research etc. that the proposed NZ business will be of benefit to NZ.

You then have to run the business in NZ for a period of 3 years from the granting of the visa, and again prove it has been successful, and has essentially met the business plan. I am not an expert on migrant visas but this is what we had to do to get our LTBV. From March 2005 our LTBV took 10 months from application to first appraisal, then a further 3 weeks to approval in Feb 2006.

Of course a business plan is indeed only a plan, and it will surely change in the course. But as long as the criteria of it being an asset to NZ is met, then hopefully there will be no problems at final assessment time.

The LTBV approach is not for the faint hearted!!!!!

    Default LTBV age

Hi Martinp, Thanks for the bad news(not for the faint harted). Reality is that the years have caught up with us and we have no other option. Did a LSD (look see decide) trip in Feb. 07. Result is that we could not wait to put our place on the market and are all fired up to get going. Need info/help from anybody on the forum. Want to move our small brewery to NZ, but not sure where there is a gap or need for handcrafted beer. Definately not main stream bland stuff. What were your main problems, did you move over and then started looking. If we buy into an excisting business is the process still the same, plan etc.
Regards from the top of the mountain

Take a look at http://www.realbeer.co.nz/ - There appears to be a forum there as well and it may be worth asking if anyone else has operated a NZ brewery on a LTBV.

I am not sure if a LTBV is the way to buy into an existing business. You might need to take advice from a LTBV expert on this. Try visiting the LTBV forum at http://benz1.com/forum/index.php?act=idx and seek out Jamie Smith.
