Default Ordnance Survey maps - equivalent?

    Hi All

Are there maps similar to the UK's Ordnance Survey in NZ?

If not which are the best ones available and is it possible to buy them on-line?

Karen and I love walking and I love my maps

It would be nice to start a new collection.

    Cheers
    Jim

Started my collection already - one of our very first purchases, a local walking book and map. You can get 'Land Information' maps, 1:50,000 which are pretty detailed and similar to OS maps in the info they show.
I adore maps and spend ages poring over them, planning walks etc!

This may be what you're looking for, including a lot of free resources.

The range of 1:50,000 maps which thezorbster mentions are here:

    Default Computer maps

    Thanks for the info.....

Zorbster - Sounds familiar - I love maps and can sit for hours following contours etc - darn site better than telly anyway

Anyway - This led me to start a bit of a Google session.

I use Memory Map (Northern England) for a lot mof our walking in the Dales and have found that Memory Map also cover NZ.

I have also found a mapping system called TUMONZ. Has anyone on the forum used either of these?

    Any Recommendations?

    Cheers

Talked to these guys in Christchurch and found them very helpful.

Once the funds allow will be going back to them and purchasing digital mapping and GPS unit

I thought it was only me. I was very sad when Kim gave all my UK OS maps to her friend. Haven't got any NZ maps yet except for the AA road maps.

I have a huge crate of them en-route to NZ, silly but I just couldn't bear to part with them, too many memories of beautiful walks in beautiful parts of UK. I was incredibly ruthless with lots of stuff, but not my maps!

Funny, I don't have any emotional attachment whatsoever to the maps I have. To me they're just a tool to get a job done. Must be a military thing I guess.
