    Default Costs of Emigrating from UK - LIST!

    Thought we could come up with the ultimate costs list!

    Try to keep this mainly in list form and cut, paste & edit, to add to the original list, if you think of a cost but don't know how much then put it down and someone else can fill it in later.

    Please look to the END of the thread for the latest version(s).

    Where costs vary just put a range and state why. Its fine to have a few different costs for the same thing as long as we know why they differ.

    Costs for applying on basis of partnership

    Getting There:

    Lodging partnership application £420
    Migrant Levy £150
    Medicals £350 (one person - central London costs)
    Removals £3200 (1 bed flat - 20' reefer with John Mason)
    Shipping insurance - not sure yet but probably £300 - £500
    Adult Flight: £845.50 (open return - because it seems cheaper to get returns from UK - NZ than other way round)
    £527.50 (single for my husband)
    Police checks £10 (1 adult)
    Birth certificate 1 A4 copy needed £10
    Shipping Pets: £1350 - 2 cats, using Golden Arrow

    Car - $11,000 (6yr old jap import medium sized family car, reasonable mileage)
    Mobile phone - $75/month
    Combined car & contents insurance - $125/month
    Food/essentials - $300/week (family of 4, inital arrival, cheaper once in rental) This is just an estimate, trying to remember what we spent (too much probably!)

    Broadband internet connection (once in rental) $25 - $50/month (depends on package/speed etc)
    Power & Gas - $200/month on Direct Debit
    Telephone & line rental - $120/month
    Bank Charges - $15/month
    Petrol - $200/month (obviously depends on amount of driving)
    WOF - $60/6 months
    Car Registration - $130/year

    Blimey, this is mounting up, how do we afford it ??????

    Costs assosciated with school -
    school 'donation' - $50/child/year
    Stationery - $10/child/term
    School trips - $10/child/term

    There will be rates as well if you own a house. We rent so not sure of figures for that.

    Doctors & dentists all cost as well.

    EOI is $400 since 30 July this year, so about £155 now (or at least at the beginning of the week when I submitted mine)
