Hi Everyone - I've from the UK living in NZ and am looking for a source of free range fresh (not frozen) turkeys to have this Xmas? And it's proving difficult! Does anyone know of anywhere ideally in the North Island?

No, but do share if you find a source.
In NZ... hmmmmmmm
well if you don't find one, you can always buy a frozen one , microwave it and then shoot it on the chest.....
Just simulate while eating, as if you have just shot one, a little while ago
Happy First Xmas in NZ

There are loads of wild turkeys here in the sticks....would that be any good?
Here's a link for anyone looking for turkeys .. Click here
LOL in Hawkes bay you can just go and grab one if your quick enough, not just free range but wild too.
Personally I couldn’t go and shoot one, but I almost got one last year, I almost hit it with the car!
The down side is once you watch them for a while you probably wouldn’t eat one. They are well funny, they have sort of a wrestling match come domestic row, they seem to hang around in big groups and squabble.
I did ask a local where to buy a turkey from, I got a blank look as she said “BUY?”
Actually I say local but she was from Holland, just been here a long long time.

OK, why have I never seen one of these Hawke's Bay turkeys?
There are feral turkeys all over the country, and they are fair game if they wander onto your land. I have been told that the mature ones don't make good eating. You should pop them before the small, black crickets come into season (mid summer) cos when they start to feast on these it taints the turkeys' flesh.
