Question Renewing UK passport - Question 2!

For those of you who have had to renew a UK passport while in NZ, did you have to have your photos certified?

    Cheers

    No just the application!

Our accountant is a JP and he did it for free, although I don't know if they normally charge anyway.

Nope - apparantly JPs are not allowed to charge for their certifying services. I asked when I had to get some documents done by one.

Yes we did and it was a right pain. As we hadn't been here long we didn't know anyone long enough that was able to sign them. So we had to send photos back to the uk get them signed by a friend who is an nurse and then sent back here. Luckily they didn't get lost in the post!!!1

    Hi

I might be able to help. I am in the process of renewing my childrens' passports. I rang the British High Commission and was advised that the photos can be certified by someone in New Zealand even if he/she has known my children for less than two years. The school headmaster did it for us and for no charge. I just hope I was correctly advised. Processing time is 2-4 weeks so I will let you know

Thanks for your replies everyone , I also got a reply from an email enquiry I sent to the passport office:

As you are renewing a passport, you are not required to have Section 10 of the form or the back of one of the photographs. You should send the completed application form C1 by courier to:

    THE PASSPORT SECTION
    BRITISH HIGH COMMISSION
    44 HILL STREET
    WELLINGTON

    with

    THE PASSPORT
    2 PHOTOGRAPHS
SOME ID - SOMETHING WITH YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS SUCH AS A RECENT UTILITY BILL
    THE PASSPORT FEE OF $352.10

On receipt of the new passport, you will have to send/take it to the nearest Immigration NZ office, with the old one that will be returned to you, to have the residence visa transferred.
    Cheers

We are just in the process of updating t'wifes passport to her married name. Luckily we can walk to the British High Commission in Welly and they said that if we do that and take her old passport then we don't need to have anything countersigned.
