The BBC uses Geo-IP technology to identify where you are based on the location of your internet service provider (ISP). This ensures that only internet users in the UK can enjoy programmes on BBC iPlayer.



If you download a programme to your laptop or a portable hard drive, you can watch this wherever you are in the world. However, you will only be able to download new programmes once you return to the UK.



Why do I need to be in the UK to use BBC iPlayer?



Rights agreements mean that BBC iPlayer is only available to users in the UK. However, BBC Worldwide is working on an international version, which we will make available as soon as possible.



Some content, such as podcasts, are available to users outside the UK at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/podcasts/directory/. It's nothing to do with regional settings, it performs a background tracert on your ip address, if it isn't registered to a UK based ISP you don't get it.

Changing your regional settings will make zero difference

Yup and i even tried changing my IP address to a UK one (for all techies, routing through a london proxy server) But that didnt work, seems may need several hops to fool the check.

As said by others, it can't be done just be changing your regional settings.

It is definitely possible to watch the shows on the BBC website from NZ, so your bro probably knows an easy way to do this, could you find out the details of what he does, sure others on the forum would find it very useful?

It should be pointed out that unless you pay a TV license fee you are not entitled to view these programs and if a method is published here then the BBC may well close the 'loophole' assuming that they can?
