Nick - I hadn't thought about possums!!! I instantly thought cats as there are loads of them around here.
Have to say I never thought I'd ever see the day when I typed "picture possum poo" into google to try and compare a picture to what we've been getting on our lawn!!!!! Think I need to get out more
Having just looked at the poo cam on Biolytix http://www.biolytix.com/index.php I can't bring myself to google "poo" of any sort before dinner.

Ohhhhh a veg patch is a prime cat toilet. Think of it as free fertilizer. They're only trying to help

I can only assume they're trying to tell you something about the condition of your lawn

You're so right, but I have such a hard time thinking of eating a cat poo carrot!

My first reply had to do with possums, but let's not go there eh?

There is a product available called " Wotchout " - cat repellant. Contains camphor oil . Available from plant shops. Possum poo is pellet like and not stinky. Cat poo... ugh .
    Jayes fluid is available here.

WARNING! Don't follow the links if you're eating, or of a sensitive disposition.

However, they might help identify for sure what IS on the lawn. The first one has various Australian animals' scat, including possum and red fox - are there any imported foxes in NZ? The second one has cats'.

Had some problems with neighbor cats here. Used cayenne pepper, which worked for a bit, but had to reapply after rain. (it rains a lot)
Also tried vinegar, which worked a bit as well....but everything reeked of vinegar of course.
The thing that did it and made the cats never come back was a motion controlled sprinkler. As soon as it saw the cats (movement) it gave them a squirt. Was a good $70 spent. We haven't used it in over a year now and the cats still haven't come back.
Not sure you can find something similar in NZ.
    We used this one: http://www.critter-repellent.com/con...sprinkler.html

I've also seen suggested moth balls, cloves and sticking skewers upright in the dirt so there isn't enough room for cats to dig.
