Default do we need health insurance ?

Have searched on the forum and see lots of advise on which companies to use, but nothing on what the benefits would be of having it ?

We have 2 adults and 3 kids - on one wage so wondering if we really need to shell out on health insurance. We are all fit and healthy (for now!)

    Any comments much appreciated...........

We have medical insurance for surgery and specialists but I know you can get insurance to cover more things. I'm kinda wishing we had cover for everything at the moment! Just to give you an idea below are our recent costs for son & me being ill recently (different illnesses). We have PR which reduces costs and we are also registered with a GP again keeping down costs:

1st visit to GP for 6yr old son; $37.00
1st visit to GP for me: $37.00
2nd visit to GP for son: $37.00
Various prescriptions for both of us: $9.00
Visit to emergency GP over weekend for me: $70.00
Antibiotics and pain meds for me: $33.00 (approx)

As you can see it soon all adds up and somehow it seems more painful on the wallet paying each time we see the GP rather than paying National Insurance like we did in the UK. Despite being in considerable pain on Sat I didn't go to see the emergency doc because I was conscious of costs, if I'd been able to put up with the pain I would have waited until Monday to see my GP all because I knew it would be cheaper - crazy!

    Seriously !!!!!!

Our docs are only $15 since they brought in those subsidies.

Poor you, that does sound a bit on the expensive side. We pay $20 per visit.
