Question IT Support Jobs - Recruiters/companies

This forum has been a great help in introducing me to NZ Emigrants and the honest views.

I am working with Canadian High Commission, New Delhi and have more than 10 years of experience in IT Support / system admin. I got the WTR invitation & Work Visa Form a week back and submitted my application this week. Advised by the Customised Service Officer that the decision should not take more than 5 days.

I am eager to get a job by visiting NZ in May mid/end. Any clues- how to go about it? My field of specialisation is IT Support, System admin and IT Security. Which recruitment agencies are good in Auckland and Wellington regions? Which companies are currently recruiting in IT Support / System Admin / IT Security. Pl provide suggestions.

    Hello

best of luck with the job search.

the best advice I can give you is just to make sure your CV is up to date (and relatiely brief - about 2 pages is fine)

there are some agencies specialising in IT, if you have a quick search you might be able to find them referred to in other possts about IT jobs on here, otherwise you can slo take a lookon trademe which has a jobs section to give you an idea of the market

NZ market like war and peace CV so the longer the better and with loads of I achieved this, I achieved that. All things they want to hear re making good decisions within your role.

Check out main companies direct. Geni, fujitsu, HP, Alcatel-Lucent, depends on your exp as to how lucky you are in finding a role that suits your exp and their systems. Just do a gobal look on SEEK.co.nz as some companies seem to put roles under weird headings, then search daily for anything new. Serval agencies will have the same role repeated over several heading so may look like there are more jobs than there really is.

Agents all much the same if they have a job for you they will ring you if they don't they will ignore you. I would get a NZ sim card soon as and put it on your CV and generic hotmail address for contact. Let them know when your arrival date and set up meetings with agents. Do not mention its a reccie just say you have arrived.

    Good luck

I lasted 2 months in recruitment here, as they are so unethical!!!

Bigger agencies for IT are AbsoluteIT, Beyond, Candle and some others I can#'t recall at the moment. You could also try local government (regional & national), District Health Boards, universities.

Bigger corporates are Telecom, Gen-i (actually part of telecom), Fonterra, Alcatel-Lucent and all the banks - Kiwibank, Westpac, ANZ National, ASB, TSB, BNZ, plus the inland revenue.

    That should keep you busy!

Dear Friends BBB, Angel and Dusk,

Thanks very much for the quick tips and names of the recruiters. I have been a member of seek.co.nz for the last few months and have actively started applying from last one week or so. Have mailed two good IT recruiters as well. Will be there in NZ from May 24 onwards. Any idea about cost-effective hotels/motels/backpackers in Auckland and Wellington area. I am coming by myself and want to get a job offer on the work visa. Pl advise.

Can I buy a NZ SIM while in India and then can get it/use it, once I land in there?

Pl volunteer (maybe involuteerily- ) if I can send my CV to you or to somebody else who has experience in finding good/bad things in a CV?

    Cheers

you can also try contacting hudson and recruitIT..guess they have few vacancies.. please let all your recruiters know about your travel plans so that they can schedule your appointments accordingly.. Wellington CBD area is not so big.. everything is in a walking distance..
about a SIM card.. guess there are few companies which give overseas SIM card from India.. one of them is matrix.. try contacting them..
and yeah.. make sure u carry enuf warm clothes as NZ has started having its winter..and wellington lives upto its reputation.. "Windy" Wellington..

For a cheapish place to stay try here http://www.moanalodge.co.nz/ I'm here at the mo whilst looking for jobs in wellington, its about 20 mins from the city centre by train in a small village RIGHT on the seashore, very nice quiet relaxed atmosphere and very clean. We were staying in the city centre at the worldwide backpackers which was okay and nice and central but out here might suit someone serious about job hunting better and I couldnt recommend it enough...

I'm looking for tech support roles as well and to be honest id say dont bother applying for anything until you're here, they wont bother with you until you're in the country and available for interview. Have only been applying for stuff since last week and only for contract roles so have to see how it goes this week with actual interviews. I also havnt tried any fulltime or company roles yet, just recruiters.

Also I'd say just grab a simcard in any vodafone or telecom store when you get here, they're NZ$30 with $15 free credit when you register.
