    Default Car Insurance NZ

Would anyone have any idea how much car insurance is please.

For a standard small car, say 3 door nissan or similar.

Also would anyone know what the rates would be to insure teenagers???

    Thanks a bunch

You might want to have a look at:

    http://www.aainsurance.co.nz/dira/aa...AC3E3&no=2

This is from the New Zealand Auto Club (AAA in the States) and they have reciprocity agreements with most existing Auto Aid clubs.

    Thank you

I am not an AA member but I will give their quote system a try.

Car unsurance rates vary greatly depending on where you live, how old you are, driving offences you have had, the type of car you have, its age, whether it's modified, etc, etc.

To insure an 'average' car, of about $8000 - $12,000 NZ, would cost between about $600 - $1000 NZ per year for fully comprehensive cover. Under 25 year olds pay much higher premiums and excesses than over 25's, usually at least double in most cases, and some companies won't insure cars like Subarus if they belong to young people - they get stolen a lot.

The best thing to do is shop around, as you will get many different quotes and covers.

The AA does offer some of the best car insurance deals around, so you should definitely check them out.

Here's a site with information on insuring a vehicle in New Zealand: CLICK ME. No prices, but good info anyway.

^ Either you've got a really good deal, or I'm out of touch with current pricing. :?

What company is that with, and how much are your vehicles insured for?

From other quotes that I have seen it is a LOT cheaper to insure a car in Christchurch than in somewhere like Auckland. Our two cars fully comp for any driver over the age of 25 cost:-

Toyota Caldina GT-T (fast Turbo 4WD estate thingy) $331

    Jaguar XJR (4.0L, 370bhp V fast Supercharged thingy :booby :booby ) $441

That is through our bank, the ASB.

To insure 11 year old honda civic for over 25s only $210 per annum. This is with AMI insurance. We faxed our UK insurer for details of no claims and this made it cheaper. This is in Rangiora, South Island.

It's not compulsory here to have car insurance, so when someone without insurance smashes into you I'm not sure what happens!

In Auckland I think you'd be looking at about $700 to insure that RAV.

The South Island sure has it sweet!
