    Question NZ Telephone Interview

We got the all clear from the MA regarding Liz health , we now need to arrange a telephone interview to ‘assess your ability to contribute and settle well in New Zealand.’

Anyone been through this and willing to offer some free advice on the types of questions we are likely to be asked?

OH just shut the door when we had ours and although i tried very hard i couldnt hear what he was saying.

Some of the questions he had got off ( i think this site ?) the internet - so we prepared in advance for likely questions.

Cant remember exactly - and i dont know what they asked him exactly(sorry)

How will you support yourself in Nz?

What work will you be looking for ?

How much £ will you be taking?

How will you integrate into society? (not those words but something similar)

    Where will you live?

Have you any friends or relations in NZ?

    Have you been to NZ?

What do you know about NZ?

    What will your partner do?

OH is very busy at work but if i get a chance ill get him to post site he had found with questions.

    Good Luck

Our case officer was very nice and friendly

I can't remember where I got this from.....sorry! It looks really scary so apologies again, these are some of the questions that may be asked.

    Why NZ?
What would you do as soon as you arrive in NZ?
    What is your plan?
    Do you have any relatives/friends?
What kind of media did you use for research about NZ?
What will you do if you don't get a job as quickly as you would have hoped?
What have you done to look for employment so far?
What support will you have in NZ?
What would you do if you came across any obstacles? (List possible obstacles)
What do you think about the impact of migrants on the socio-economic balance of New Zealand and the wider South West Pacific basin?
How much money did we think we needed to make a good living in NZ
How long did we think it would take to find work?
Mainly how do you plan to make friends ?
How do you intend to find work ?
What will your Partner do for a living?
What if you do not find work in the area that you have chosen to live?
How will you support yourselves ?
    Where will you live?
When do you want to go?
What have you heard about NZ ?
Has anyone given you any advice about moving to NZ ?
Have you looked at schools ?
    What are your hobbies?
Do you have any questions ?
    Have you visited NZ?
    What is your financial situation?
    Have you looked at properties?
    What wages to you expect?

What do plan, if you do not find the right job in your industry?
How much do you expect to pay for your flat/house?
How will you build up your social networks and get new friends?

    I'm sure you'll be fine......good luck

In my telephone interview she asked - a few times, but with different phrasing " what problems might you encounter", to which i gave an answer which ended in "but then if that happens I'll do this, this and this, so I'm not worried about that". They just wanted to see that if problems arise, you prepared to cope with them or have a backup. (e.g. if you don't get a job, being on the other side of the world to family etc.).
    Good luck with it
