    Default Dental work in NZ!

Ok, i guess by now most of us have had to go to our dentist for treatment.

Thought i would start a thread on what prices you're looking at paying when you get here -

    Hastings - Hawkes Bay
    Consultation and Filling - $140
    X ray per tooth - $10
    Scale and Polish - $75

Please anyone feel free to post your charges!

I know it's slightly off topic from the original question but in my UK NHS practice in Scotland.

Consultation and filling: £6.84 to 17.56 depending on size of filling.
    Xray £3.16
    Scale polish £10.08

AND people still moan about the prices!!!!

    Can't wait to move

Hey, at least that's guaranteed to be a one-time procedure.

Scale and polish - $75 / quarter mouth !! And I'm really hacked off with the state of my teeth since the cleaning - had no problems with staining and now I only have to look at a glass of red wine and they're going off colour.

Root canal - I've had two since being here - one corrected from UK which went "bad" $1,200 and a complete one, from scratch, $1,400-ish.

I got these quotes from a place near Auckland Uni called Lumino. I haven't used them.
    Dental Check Up $80.00
    This includes:
    Full examination/consultation $40.00
    2 Bite-wing x-rays $40.00
    Treatment plan (and estimation cost/s)

Please note if we need to take further x-rays this will cost an extra $25.00 each

    *Fillings:
Amalgam (this is the silver filling) cost from $160.00
Composite (this is the white filling) cost from $178.00

    *Scale & Polish (Clean)
    Cost from $80.00

If you are a first time patient it is advisable to have a dental check up first, this way we can see if you need to have any work done.

Christchurch - $90 for fixing a chip on a front tooth. Took 30 mins, and the dentist admitted he'd chipped one of his own and hadn't fixed it yet! Then went back for X-ray and hygiene clean (he did this), and was charged $80.
Seems I got a bit of a bargain. So far, I'm getting better value than the £40/month I paid on a UK insurance plan.
