One thing that has not been mentioned here yet is Plant Sterols & Stanols. These cholesterol lowering compounds are available (at least in the UK) as drinks, yoghurts and spreads - typically under the "Pro-Activ" and "Benecol" brands.
These are often claimed to reduce cholesterol levels by around 15%, but need to be taken daily for two or three weeks to show a decent result. This may not be fast enough for your timescale or a large enough drop on it's own, but certainly worth looking at if you want to avoid medications wherever possible. Hope that helps!
