    Question Nintendo Wii

Does anybody know if our UK Nintendo Wii will work okay in NZ (probably not the most important of issues, but hopefully will keep the kids out of trouble occasionally). Thanks.

I don't know about the UK Wii but our U.S. Wii works -the only thing we need is a plug adaptor

Yes, you just need to change the plug or get an adapter.

well the machine will probably work, but bear in mind that Wii games and machines are region encoded. so UK games will not work on NZ machines and vice versa.

    see attached for compatible regions:

unless you're not planning to buy any new games (or will import them from Europe) then maybe an idea to sell your Wii and buy a new one in NZ...

think there are ways around the region encoding, but not investigated.

I was under the impression that Wii was not region encoded - which your posted thread seems to also confirm

Are you not using a transformer??? We've been using a transformer with our wii as we were told it didn't automatically convert between electrical systems, while our PS3 had no problem.

I just did a search on Google as I had a suspicion it was. I have no direct experience of this (I don't own a Wii), but it wouldn't surprise me if the games are region encoded, it's pretty common in the Console game industry (if not the PC game industry). The thread is one of many which confirms that there is region encoding.

According to the wii website wiis are region coded:

Just like Nintendo GameCube and other television-bound consoles before it, Wii employs a Region Code based on the country where it is sold. Because of the Region Code, only software purchased in the same region will be compatible with your Wii console.
But I have no idea what the regions are...

    Current regions are:-
    U: USA
    E: Europe
    J: Japan
    A: Australia

They may include China later (fifth region)
