    Question Prospects for French Teacher

    Hi,

My oh has just got her provisional practising certificate from NZTC and we were wondering what are the prospects for french teaching in NZ at secondary level.

Also, what is the salary scale for teaching?

Anywhere, french teaching jobs being advertised.

    Thanks.

P.S: we've just submitted our ITA. Now crossing fingers.

Félicitations à votre dame! Here's a link that takes a lot of words to tell you nothing specific. http://www.teachnz.govt.nz/overseas-...yment/salaries I expect somebody already in the job will help out.

    Good luck with the ITA.

    Hi,
from what I see, there isn't a lot of demand for French teachers, at least here in Chch. The Alliance Française has advertised one job only in the last two years (only a couple of hours). There might be a few foreign language schools looking for casual lessons here and there but otherwise, not a lot of demand.
I don't think French is an important subject in secondary schools either, but I might be wrong.
    best of luck; Laura

We now have a part time French teacher but that was only because our Japanese teacher left and we couldn't find anyone to replace her!

Do you have a second subject?

It's not a full-time job, but in the mag my MiL just brought over from Chch NZ there are some after-school language clubs listed - will seek out the details tonight.

    Salut Jean-Marc,

Unfortunately French teachers aren't very much needed in Aotearoa, despite New Caledonia being the closest non-English speaking islands to NZ (as far as I know). More common here are Maori, Samoan, Mandarin Chinese.

    C'est vachement dommage!

Burnside High have 2 French teachers - Maybe they can help? I would imagine all the private schools - ie Rangi Ruru, etc will have French teachers too - well they did in my day!!
