EOI - how do I fill it in with experience, not paper qualifications?

SUB-MAJOR GROUP 13 SPECIALIST MANAGERS


SPECIALIST MANAGERS plan, organise, direct, control and coordinate special functions within organisations such as advertising and sales, financial, human resources, production and distribution, education, health and welfare, and ICT.
Indicative Skill Level:
In Australia and New Zealand:

Most occupations in this sub-major group have a level of skill commensurate with a bachelor degree or higher qualification. At least five years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification. In some instances relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification (ANZSCO Skill Level 1).

Tasks Include:
developing, implementing and monitoring strategies, policies and plans for their area of control
establishing and directing operational and administrative procedures
directing and coordinating the allocation of resources
monitoring work progress and performance, and adjusting processes and resources to keep goals on track
controlling budget planning and report preparation, and monitoring and controlling expenditure for their area of control (Not Really)
controlling selection, training and performance of staff
representing the organisation in negotiations, and at conventions, seminars, public hearings and forums. (not really i represent my dept at ops meetings along with my shift manager)

i do not have any further education certificates and was thinking of starting a course for a hnc/hnd, but according to the above experience can replace formal education.

Is the above enough to apply as a skilled migrant? would i also need further education to achieve points? i really dont know where to start.
any advice would help!

There definitely are some jobs that NZIS recognize people tend to have learnt on the hoof, rather than on courses or in a classroom. If yours is one of them, you need to take the bit between your teeth, and get your working life told to them in such a way that they can believe your expertise. If you're doing this kind of job and getting paid for it now, why shouldn't you say so? You may need to argue your case a bit, but people on the forum who have been in the same boat will tell you about that, I'm sure.

Your second 'not really' sounds rather as if it could be described in such a way as to meet the criterion, with a bit of an effort, and some co-operation from your ops manager or HR department as to how they phrase things, describing the work you have been doing. Also, are you sure you haven't controlled any aspects of finance? Ever? Maybe when someone else is on holiday? Apart from the two points in red, does every other point describe your job? If so, and if you have at least five years experience, it sounds as if you may have got it covered.

Hi JandM, thanks for the response, you are right that i could get my Shift Manager and HR to confirm all of the above and indeed would even let me "have a go" as it were, in my previous employment i managed a fresh produce dept within a store and was solely responsible for all bugets,costs etc so i could quote all of that experience.

What i need to know is what route is my best option? Does my job qualify as Skilled Employment for immigration purposes? and how do i get the points without the job offer or certificates of higher education? i have went through the online EOI but dont seem to be getting anywhere near the total i need.

I was also looking at starting an SVQ level 4 in management, this level is measured as a HND in management on all the SQA website so hopfully i could use this to gain the extra points, but when you read the above it clearly states that the experience may substitute for the formal education but i see no boxes to tick that will get me 50 points for it on the EOI.

Apologies if im not coming across clear enough, just need a point in the right direction with regard to submitting the EOI.

I understand your question, but I don't know the answer. You need some people who have put in EOIs like this (preferably successfully). Would you like me to rename your thread as something like 'EOI - how do I fill it in with experience, not paper qualifications?', then it may attract more attention?

It's all down to what you feel is most urgent, isn't it? If you're entitled to the points for work experience right now, you could get on your way to NZ straight away. Certainly, if you pick the right course, you'll definitely get some points, but you'll be still in the UK for whatever the length of the course is, spending out for the fees. Don't get me wrong - I'm not against adult education and IST if you want to do it, and have done plenty myself. But if your priority is to start your new life asap, you may not HAVE to do the course for that.

Ideally i would rather go into the pool without having to go through any further education but my work have offred to help with the costs and it can be completed in one semester as it were so i dont think it would do any harm?

in terms of a timescale for getting to NZ we have not put any set timeline on it as we knew it would be difficult with the job i do and without the qualifications so we are taking each day as it comes and starting to save the pennies. but the sooner the better lol,
