It needs to be inspected and get a Warranty of Fitness (WOF) before it's on the road at all (ie you cxan't even drive it to the garage for the inspection).

NZ rules are differernt. Based on stuff I've read, cars less than 2 years old need the WOF every year, over that it's every 6 months. Deisel is even more weird where you also pay in advance for a milage (or kilometrage?) related tax, so the disc expires in 6 months or at XXX,000 kilometres.

Check the rules regarding import tax on cars less than 12 months old if there's a risk that will occur.

As for where (or even when) then it's all up in teh air at the moment. Plan A was Christchurch next Easter. Plan F is Auckland 2011. There are a few variants between those though, depends a lot on UK house sale and potential sale price.

FYI, unlike an MOT, in NZ all cars need a WOF every year (or 6 months if an old car).

    ...

•Vehicles first registered anywhere less than six years ago must have WoF inspections every 12 months.
•All other vehicles must have WoF inspections every six months.
